August update......
First off a very big thank you for all the nice comments about my Pride & Prejudice sampler - I truly appreciate them all! For those of you that suggested I chart and sell this pattern, I appreciate the thoughts but 75% of this sampler is put together from published charts by designers so that would be plagiarism LOL. I want to backstitch my name along the bottom and hopefully get it off to the framer sometime this month.
I want to say a belated thank-you to dear Heidi over at http://stitchedmemoriesintime.blogspot.com/. Heidi and I have followed each other's blogs for some years and we did a private "Christmas in July" ornament exchange this year. Heidi has already blogged on my gift to her (you can see it here )but I'm just now getting some photos up of her remarkable gifts to me. I just LOVE the ornament she made - I think the silhouette of Santa who looks very Dutch-like and is stitched on both sides of the hanging ornament - how cool is that? I love the little hanging snowflake and beads at the bottom and the colors and trims remind of the Moda French General fabrics. Heidi also made a gorgeous scissor fob for the scissors she included - the fob has a Dutch shoe bead which I treasure! I've been enjoying the Dutch tea Heidi also sent me - am I lucky or what? Thank you again Heidi! I'm so glad we did this little exchange together. :-)
I made a new start on "Quaker Christmas" by Bygone Stitches but I didn't like my materials so I decided not to continue. Instead I've been working along with Halloween Rules (4 more rules to go!) and a new little project called "Winter Silhouette". I saw this worked up as shop model and loved it. It only uses one color of thread so is easy stitching. It's a short but wide design and I've got about one-third of it done. I think a lot of these little motifs would be cute stitched as ornaments.
I also finished this lovely LHN ornament for a friend. She bought one of these great wooden stands from Bloom Woodworks and I put a little sleeve on the back of the ornament to hold it onto the stand. This was such a fun finish to do - I want to do some for myself now! These stands are very nicely made and reasonably priced. It gives you another great option for displaying your work!
I got an urge to clean up my sewing room/stitching room/home office so I spent a lot of the weekend sorting through stuff and reorganizing a bit. I threw out a few things like too many empty boxes I was keeping and scraps of fabric...it is so hard to use up fabric! You make quilts and you generate heaps of scraps.... I decided it was time to let some of it go. I was able to make a little more space and my little world is back in order.

It only took me 5 years....Pride & Prejudice sampler finish! (photo heavy)
I'm happy dancing because I finally finished this project a week ago!! I started it back in 2008 when Vonna from The Twisted Stitcher started a blog titled "Me Myself & I" for doing 'neighborhood' samplers. Those were popular at the time with many people doing round robins to build their 'neighborhoods' and the blog was encouragement for people doing one by themselves. I decided to do a Jane Austen "Pride & Prejudice" neighborhood as it's one of my favorite movies. I pulled patterns from my stash, bought some (mostly from the Stitching Parlor "Pride & Prejudice" series) and started planning my sampler. At times I got really tired of it and put it away for months at a time. In January I saw an article online mentioning that 2013 is the 200th anniversary of the Pride & Prejudice novel - I had no idea about that. It turned out to be a good motivator for me to finally finish this piece up this year so I could put those dates on it. (If anyone has any questions about the patterns I used, there is a separate page on my blog here that lists them.)
My goal was to make my sampler resemble venues used for the A&E 1995 Pride & Prejudice mini-series with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth - it's my favorite of the many versions made of this wonderful novel. I searched out the filming sites online and other photos so you can see my inspiration for each part of the sampler. It was hard to get the colors right in my photos. I adjusted some of them - the sampler was stitched on cream 36-ct Edinborough linen even though it appears grayish in some photos. Without further ado....here it is!
First off a photo of the completed sampler:
The lovely Bennet sisters on location while filming...Lydia, Lizzy, Jane, Mary & Kitty:
Longbourn, home of the Bennets:

Netherfield Hall - the country home Mr. Bingley rents and where he starts his romance with Jane Bennet, and where Lizzy meets Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy:
What a military camp back in the Georgian era looked like -
And our P&P British Regiment camped at Meryton...with the infamous Mr. Wickham:
Here we are at Rosings Park where Darcy's aunt and cousin live:
And where the Bennets' cousin Mr. Collins has his parish church with his new wife Charlotte.
Charlotte and her Mr. Collins. Mr Collins' hobby was bee-keeping.
We have the incredible Pemberley, ancestral home of the Darcy family.
And finally Mr. Darcy and Lizzy, living happily ever after!
I'm so thrilled to get this project off my UFO list! Thanks for visiting friends and readers!

Meanwhile...back at the ranch....
It's been a busy summer for sure but I've been stitching and feel like I'm making good progress. I haven't been keeping up too well with my blog reading but I've noticed (sadly) a lot of blogs I've read for years haven't had any recent postings in a long while. At first I wondered if maybe it was the move off of Google Reader and I wasn't getting updates....but no....people are just too busy or maybe they've moved away from blogging or not stitching as much - I'm sure it's a variety of reasons but it makes me sort of sad. I always miss someone when they quit blogging but I understand it's hard to make time for everything you want to do. I may not blog too often but I'm not going anywhere.....I enjoy keeping up with all you cyberstitchers!
My job situation is finally resolved. Our layoff at work consumed more than 2 months of stress. Although I applied and interviewed for a few different jobs including the one I already had, I decided that I would not take my old job again as it was just too stressful and going to get more so. Fortunately I was offered a spot in another group so I accepted that position and will be starting that job shortly. I have some friends in my new group and they assure me that the new job will be much less stressful than my old one. This is good news - maybe I can survive a couple more years there until I'm ready to retire. I admit though that I was very, very close to just packing it in and taking the layoff package that was offered. I had glorious dreams of all the stitching I could get done if I wasn't working. So those hopes are dashed to bits but on the bright side I still have plenty of stash money while I'm working!
I've recently gotten some framing done so a few more things marked off the list. This is the SAL piece I recently completed - I picked a frame that looks very old with distressing, dings, etc. I think it works well with the piece. (and oh how I WISH it was cold outside! We are in the midst of our desert summer here in Arizona....hot hot hot!)

Below is a piece I finished up last year and finally got framed. It's an old Ewe & Eye & Friends chart called Kona Coast. I left off the verbage from the chart and substituted the word 'aloha' and some hisbiscus flowers. It reminds me of Maui where my husband and I have been a few times (and hope to go again!). I like this frame because it sort of looks like a tropical teak wood.
"Kona Coast" - Ewe & Eye & Friends
And lastly here is a small band sampler I did many years ago. I never liked how it was framed so I took it apart and had it redone. Love that they had a frame that matched the colors exactly! It will go great in my pink & aqua sewing room.
"Very Victorian Strawberries Sampler" - Eileen Bennett
I'm making good progress with Halloween Rules. I passed the halfway mark - yippee! Only 6 more rules to go. At first I was worried the colors were sort of blah on the gray linen but I'm liking it now that I've got more done on it. I won't have it framed and displayed for Halloween this year but I will have it completed and get it framed for next year. I think this is one I want to send off to Jill Rensel for some special mats.
Like most other stitchers, I am so envious of Carol's smalls she shows on her blog Stitching Dreams. I've been trying to do some small seasonal items to start my own collection. I had done all 12 of the Shepherd's Bush pieces years back. I had mounted them all on foamcore and rotated them in and out of a frame I had made. Well I would always forget to change it when the month rolled around and I decided to 'remodel' them into small pillows instead. So far I've done these 3 below. The second photos shows how they looked in the frame before. I'm liking them much better as smalls.

I'm wondering does anyone have any tips for putting rick-rack in as a trim? I got it to work but it wasn't too easy. I basted it onto the backing piece before I sewed the front to the back. It just seems hard to do and wondering if there are any tips for making it easier.
I'm getting ready to start a new SAL with a stitching friend. We're doing "Quaker Christmas". This has been in my stash for a long time...we're going to just take our time on it and share progress every few months. Luckily I had everything I needed in my stash for once. I had a huge bundle of Gloriana thread I bought for something else years ago and decided it will work out for this piece. I also had an old piece of Lakeside Linens from when they used to dye it with more mottling. In the past couple of years I've noticed there is hardly any mottling in their linen anymore which is sad.
Well that wraps up things for me today. Next week I'll have an exciting finish to show you - something I've worked on for 5 years almost - finally making it to the finish line!! I also sent off a private Christmas-in-July exchange that I'll be able to share once the person receives it. Thanks for sharing a few moments of your time with me.

We have a giveaway winner!
I threw all the names in bowl and let the husband draw one out.....it's Anne from Doll's Musings - congratulations Anne! I've sent you an email and will mail your winnings when I hear back from you with your mailing address. Thanks to one and all for entering the contest, I'm only sorry everyone couldn't win.
Not a whole lot to share today, I'm still making progress on Halloween Rules, almost done with #3 of the 12 rules, they move along pretty quickly. I like working on this project in the evenings while watching TV because it's on 32-ct and that's easier for me to see using regular lighting. I usually work on projects that are on higher count linens in my sewing room/office where my big Daylight magnifier is.
I finished up some little bags this weekend. I saw this cute pattern in a quilt store and I just had to make some. The pattern is called "Bridget's Bagettes". The fronts are made out of clear vinyl which lets you see what is inside. They were fun to do. They're not very big you can see but I'm going to try to enlarge the pattern and make some stitching project bags this way. You can never have too many project bags, right?
I'm happy I'm finally getting to go to a 'sew day' with my quilting buddies this Saturday. We have one each month but I've been too busy to go the last few months. It's about the only time I get any concentrated time to work on my sewing projects. We are so lucky...we meet in a community room at one of the local police stations...it's a huge room with lots of banquet tables and they let us meet there for free. Perfect for spreading out with all your stuff, laying out quilts, etc.
No word on the job situation yet....everyone is still waiting to see who gets offered jobs and who ends up leaving. Obviously, nobody feels like doing much work in the meantime although they keep dumping it on us.
I see I've gained some new followers - welcome and thanks for stopping by! I hate that Google Reader is going away....I've been using Feedly on my iPad so guess I'll just stick with that but I hate always having to learn and use new things. I don't know how to keep up anymore....Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram, Linked-In, Google+, all the iPad and iPhone apps....I find it overwhelming sometimes. I hope Blogger stays popular, I know some stitchers just post on Facebook but I've been resisting going to Facebook as I really don't have time to deal with yet another thing to check on. Even though it takes time to keep up, I don't think I could cut myself off from the online stitching community, it would feel very lonely! In fact, I can hardly remember back to the 'old days' before I was ever a member of a Yahoo group, bulletin board, or some sort of connection with other stitchers or quilters. I appreciate sharing with all of you!

Back finally...and with a giveaway!
Well what can I say except I've been extremely busy the last couple of months with no time for blogging. In the space of 8 weeks I had relatives in town 3 times, took 2 trips to Las Vegas and a trip back to visit family in the Midwest. I won some money in Las Vegas (yahoooooo!), saw the Rolling Stones concert there at the MGM Grand, and came down with a bad cold and double ear-infection that turned into bronchitis for a few weeks. Thankfully I'm almost back to my normal health now and things are starting to calm down. I've also been going through a lot of stress at my job as we are in the middle of a big layoff. About 240 of us had to post for 100 positions and I won't know for a few weeks what my situation will be. I'm gone through sadness, anger, depression, and most all the emotions associated with that sort of thing, having been at the company over 17 years. At this point I'm mostly in "acceptance"....fortunately I'm not desperate for this job at this point in my life so I'm not even sure I want to stay there if I'm offered my job back. It may be time to move on with my life ...time will tell.
I did promise a giveaway back in March so I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to it. I have a pile of miscellaneous stitching items....many patterns, some fabrics, a few small kits, a ring of about 45 silk fibers from Vicki Clayton, and I'll be throwing in a couple more surprises once I visit my LNS this week. A few years ago I bought a bunch of Vicki Clayton's Hand Dyed Silks but I find I really never used more than a couple of them so hoping someone else can find them useful. Some of the patterns included are ones I've already stitched, or they were duplicates I had. To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post asking that your name be entered in the drawing. If your email is not in your Blogger profile be sure to leave it in your post so I can contact you if you win. Last day for entering is Monday June 10th.
Even though I've been so busy I have been stitching as much as I could fit in. I have a couple of finishes finally - ta da! First up is Jenny Bean's Humble Servant Sample by Shakespeare's Peddler. I loved stitching this one, it was done on 40-ct Vintage Navy Bean fabric by Lakeside Linens with 1 thread of overdyed cottons over 2 thread of linen.
I found the little proverb on the piece especially meaningful to me as I was stitching it the week my department announced the big layoff. "Ye Shall Reap What Ye Sow"....well corporate America I hope you are listening. When you don't want to employ your country's citizens and only want cheap offshore labor it may come back to haunt you someday. Americans need jobs in order to buy your products. It hurts to know that 120 of my colleagues will be losing their jobs. I've been through 6 or 7 layoffs in my years at this company so they can outsource more jobs and I've just about had it.
I also finished Baby It's Cold Outside by Heartstring Samplery.
I loved seeing so many of you stitching this piece last winter and I did an SAL with my cyber-stitching friend Cindy. We had fun and this was a pretty quick stitch overall. I used a red thread from Victorian Motto instead of what was called for in the pattern (GAST Pomegranate) as the overdyed floss I had was a bit to pinkish for the house. I hope to drop this piece off for framing soon so I can enjoy it this winter. It reminds me a lot of red farmhouses and barns in a Midwestern winter, which is where I grew up. I do miss snow in the wintertime!
Once I got these 2 projects done I felt free to start up something new. I have so much kitted up that it's hard to just pick one project but I decided on Halloween Rules by Lizzie Kate. I've been stitching on it about a week and a half and working on the second 'rule'. I'm using a 32-ct mottled gray linen. It's fun and a no-stress piece which is perfect for me right now.
And of course I've continued adding to my stash. After 20 years of visiting Las Vegas almost yearly I finally got around to visiting the cross-stitch shop Stitcher's Paradise. It's not far off the Las Vegas Strip and well worth a visit if you're in town. It's a small store but jam-packed with lots of goodies. They have lots of great models all over the shop and beautiful cube finishes that were really inspiring.
I also got to squeeze in a trip to the Country Cupboard stitching store in Orland Park Illinois when I was in the Chicago area. I'd been there a few years ago but enjoyed my repeat trip and I happened to get in on their 30th anniversary sale. Having a shop celebrate 30 years in the needlework business is really something so I salute them! I wanted to get to the Inspired Needle but could not fit it in this time. So I've been picking up patterns and fibers mostly. I finally caved in and bought all of the CCN Santa's Village charts that are out - I told myself last year I wasn't going to be tempted but once I started seeing some of the great stitching on your blogs I was hooked! I've been collecting the threads required and now just need to find some linen for this piece.....I'm thinking of doing it on 40-ct light blue linen if I can find something. I also got some of the Sheep Virtues kits by LHN, and some other miscellaneous things I can't even recall right now.
Don't forget to enter the giveaway if you're interested! Until next time.........
