Hi all - I finished off a WIP I started sometime last year. I had put it away because I made a mistake on one of the vines - stitched all the way from bottom to top and realized I had made a mistake at the bottom. SO....I had to tear all that out. I figured I would start the vine from the top the second time to avoid that mistake and I made yet ANOTHER mistake and had to frog it a second time. Grrrr! Finally I decided the over-dyed floss was the problem (cursed you know) - I didn't like the colors in it much anyway so I substituted some DMC and it was smooth sailing from there on out. Sometimes those overdyes don't have a good color transition, know what I mean? This one had mostly ugly greenish-brown it seemed with an abrupt change to a nicer light green but there wasn't much of it. I'm much happier with the green DMC's I chose. Here she is - I changed her dress color, her hair to light brown and her eyes to blue to match you-know-who.....and I made her project a sampler rather than a rooster like the pattern has.

I always keep a big 'wish list' on Amazon.com and when I need things to round up an order to get free shipping I will look for something with a good price. I recently picked up this book called "Tiaras" by Geoffrey Munn. I love historic jewelry especially that connected with royalty. This book was only $11.00 and such a treat for the eyes. Evidently there was an exhibit at the V&A museum in London which I only wished I could have seen. Feast your eyes on some of these lovelies! Every woman should have a tiara....sigh.......
I recently bought a small gift for someone from the Stitchery catalog that I keep getting in the mail. They keep trying to get me to order something and I finally did. In order to make it worth my while to pay a shipping cost I picked up some of these beaded Mill Hill Santa kits and this Angel of Stitching pattern. The kits come with perforated paper but I may stitch them on linen instead. I just think they are cute.
I have to hurry with this as I'm headed over to a sew day with my quilting buddies. Should be fun as I haven't sewed since my surgery in October. Sunday we'll be parked in front of the big-screen TV with our friends and munchies watching the epic Monsters of the Midway vs The Pack. We are Bears fans .....not sure if we can beat our arch-enemy the Packers this time but it's exciting just the same. I'll have our Bears flag flying in front of the house - GO BEARS!!

See you back here soon I hope!
Congratulations on the finish! Very nice! I like what you bought from the catalog too! And the tiara book -- so pretty! I'm not into football at all. Hope it's fun watching on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteI love your LHN My Needle's Work. Her blue eyes are lovely and that little curl on her forehead...just adorable. I must add this one to my stash.
ReplyDeleteI really like your version of 'My Needle's Work' and the liitle sampler is so clever! I have to agree with you about some of those greens...
ReplyDeleteI love the color changes you made on My Needle's Work. I may have to go with a blue dress on mine as well now. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGO BEARS!!!!
Congratulations on the finish! I like the changes that you made to the design too.
ReplyDeleteWonderful finish! I agree about the overdyes - sometimes I cut off sections but I hate doing that and wasting thread. Love the sampler change you made for her!
ReplyDeleteI NEED a tiara!
Congratulations on finishing My Needle's Work...the changes you made are lovely! And I completely understand what you mean about overdyes...same with knitting yarn (especially Noro)...most of it will be so pretty, then you come to a section where you say, "What were they thinking??!?"
ReplyDeleteI say "GO BEARS!!!" because the Packers beat the Falcons and I'm tired of that cocky Aaron Rodgers so I want them to go down in flames, LOL!
Beautiful Stitching!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the finish!
Lovely finish!
ReplyDeleteI love the changes that you made! That little sampler is perfect and adds so much to the design. Congrats on your finish!
ReplyDeleteThe Brook's Books angel will be a wonderful gift for your friend and I think the Mill Hill kits will look absolutely darling on linen! It's to bad they don't release their designs as charts too.
Hope you had fun quilting again with your friends.
That has to feel good, A new finish! The Santa's on your new buy looks cute. I'm a bad girl though, the snowmen kept on calling me to keep on stitching... I finished It's cold outside.
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling finish, Jeanne--your colors work beautifully together!
ReplyDeleteHope your Bears win (that is until the Super Bowl if the Steelers make it that far!!)...
Great finish! I love the color changes and I esp. love the switch from the rooster to the sampler. It's charming. That book looks interesting...and full of sparkly eye candy!
ReplyDeleteLove your stitching finish!!! It is so cool that you changed it to a sampler! Also, that tiara book is breathtaking!!! I had to step away from the computer and come back as it really got my heart racing!!!
ReplyDeleteWill be watching the Bears tomorrow too; while stitching! Perfect day.
Congrats on the finish, I love the colors!!! Hope you have a fun game day.
ReplyDeleteLove the changes you made on your Sampler Lady, especially changing the rooster to a sampler. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteToday is the big day around here for Bears fans. I will be camped out in front of the TV with my stitching and football. Great afternoon! GO BEARS!!!!
Congratulations, lovely finish & I like your changes
ReplyDeleteGreat finish! It looks wonderful on the Buttercream. Nice new stash, too!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the Bears. My mother's from the Chicago area, but has lived in the Philly area for 40 years. We're Philly fans first and foremost--always--but cheer for the Bears second. Hope you enjoyed the time with your friends!
What a beautiful finish! I've never really taken that much notice of this one before but I love it.
ReplyDeleteLove your finish with the changes you made. That Tiara book is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my blog and giving me an excuse to trail you back here and drool over your work. I'm totally with you on the sometimes weirdness of overdyes. Sometime I just wonder what they were thinking.
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanne, your finish is lovely and I like the sampler replacement.
ReplyDeleteFinally getting caught up and just love the doll kits you have purchased over the years. I have signed up for her newsletters. I love dolls and bears.
Just one more thing to do!!! not enough life!!!
Congratulations on a lovely finish Jeanne! It might have given you some grief (I always go wrong with vines too) but I would say the end result is worth it.
ReplyDeleteI love the colour changes and that house sampler is far nicer than the rooster.
Margaret
Beautiful finish!
